GUWAHATI: Internal bickerings have left the Congress in dire straits ahead of the general elections in Assam.
Five Congress MLAs have openly revolted against the party high command’s decision to field two-time former MP Ranee Narah from the Lakhimpur seat.
The five MLAs – Balin Chetia, Raju Sahu, Sumitra Patir, Rajib Lochan Pegu and Ghana Buragohain – met here on Sunday to chalk out their course of action.
In fact, Pegu has threatened to resign from the party as well as Assembly if the high command fails to revoke the decision.
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, who initially downplayed Pegu’s threat as ‘drama’, met the MLAs here on Monday but failed to break the ice.
