New Delhi, Apr 9- Sports Minister MS Gill today assured the visiting International Hockey Federation (FIH) President Leandro Negre that security and infrastructure would not be an issue when the capital hosts the World Cup next year. In his interaction with the Negre-led FIH delegation, Gill said stadiums would be ready well in time so that a four-nation tournament could be hosted before the World Cup to test the preparedness of the venues of the mega event scheduled in March next year.
“The FIH delegation inspected the stadiums and are happy with the progress made. The Sports Minister promised them that he would push vigorously to ensure that all renovation and construction works are ready as scheduled,” a ministry spokesperson told PTI.He said the issue of security for the event also cropped up during the discussion and the Minister spelled out in details how the government plans to make it foolproof.
“It did came up in during the discussion and the Minister assured the FIH chief that the government would work at every level to ensure security not only for the hockey World Cup but also for the Commonwealth Games,” the spokesperson said.
Negre also met representatives of 28 state hockey units led by Bengal Hockey Association President JB Roy to discuss the state of the game in the country.
