VARANASI, Apr 11 : As the date for Parliamentary elections is drawing near, the contestants of all political parties and their supporters have intensified electioneering to woo voters in their favour.
While Bharatiya Janata Party stalwart and candidate from Varanasi Murli Manohar Joshi flagged off a Dalit Chetana Yatra from Rathyatra and addressed a series of election meetings at different places, Congress candidate and sitting MP Rajesh Mishra also held meetings at different places on Friday. Joshi addressed a meeting of intellectuals in Lanka area and meetings in Bisunpur, Sarnath and Dhelwaria areas.
The Congress candidate, along with supporters, conducted campaign in Hukulganj, Sunderpur, Adampura, Bari Bazar, Navapura and several other places. Workers of Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party also intensified their poll campaign for their respective candidates.
Besides Varanasi, the political leaders also made exhaustive campaign in the adjoinind districts. Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi addressed the poll meetings at Mirzapur and Gyanpur (Bhadohi), other senior BJP leader Kalraj Mishra addressed meetings in Jaunpur, Ghazipur and Chandauli Parliamentary constituencies.
