Sonkar was allegedly killed by the goons of Dhananjay Singh, BSP candidate from Jaunpur, on April 13.
Kalicharan Sonkar, state IJP president said on Tuesday that party national president Udit Raj has issued an appeal to the Sonkar Samaj to come forward in commemorating Sonkar’s martyrdom — “who lost his life for daring to stand against the mafia don fielded by the ruling BSP”.
Demanding a CBI probe into the alleged murder, he said the party will hold a huge demonstration in Delhi after the Lok Sabha elections.
Condemning attempts by Chief Minister Mayawati to give clean chit to her party candidate and shield guilty police officers, Sonkar said: “For the BSP, which claims to be the sole messiah of the Dalits, murder of a Dalit leader is a routine matter. But the transfer of the station officer, circle officer and additional SP on the orders of the Election commission was unfortunate.”
Sonkars, who belong to the Khatique group, are the most upwardly mobile community among Dalits after the Valmikis. Sonkar are largely settled in all major urban centers of the state.
Meanwhile, the Advocates’ Association of Jaunpur has demanded a CBI inquiry into the death of Bahadur Lal Sonekar.
