New Delhi, Apr 3 : Senior BJP leader Jaswant Singh, who is under EC scanner for alleged violation of model code of conduct, is likely to be the party candidate from Darjeeling in West Bengal.

Party's Prime Ministerial candidate L K Advani today held separate meetings with the leaders of the Gorkhaland Janmukti Morcha (GJM) and Jaswant Singh on the matter.

According to party sources, the declared candidate Dawa Sherpa from the constituency has agreed to withdraw from the fray for Singh.

"Our present candidate from Darjeeling Dawa Sherpa and GJM chief Bimal Gurum today met Advaniji in the evening. Both of them have shown their interest for Jaswant Singh to contest from Darjeeling. A decision in this regard would be taken by the CEC," party incharge of North-East S S Ahluwalia told newsmen.

Prior to Advani's meeting with the GJM leaders, Jaswant Singh met the senior leader at his residence.

Singh has been charged with violation of model code of conduct for allegedly distributing cash at an election meeting in Barmer in Rajasthan.
