Kolkata: Leader of the Congress Legislative Party, Manas Bhunia, alleged here on Thursday that the State government was conspiring to unleash terror in the tribal belts in the districts of Paschim Medinipur, Bankura and Purulia.
Addressing mediapersons, Mr. Bhunia said: “Both the State government and the administration of the Paschim Medinipur district failed to handle the situation [that allegedly arose out of tribal discontent against police excesses on them following the landmine explosion on the convoy of Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on November 2 near Salboni in the district, in which the district police suspected Maoist hand]. It got out of control because of their incompetence,” Mr. Bhunia said.
Allegation He warned that any more violence against the tribal people could worsen the situation. .
On some Left leaders’ allegation that certain members of the Trinamool and the Congress were supporting Maoists, Mr. Bhunia said: “I challenge the State government and all its machinery to furnish the list of all those leaders who have Maoist connection and arrest them.”
