Chandigarh , Apr 16: Claiming that its candidates in Punjab were not being provided adequate security, the Congress today alleged that even the mandatory escort vehicle of its nominee from Bathinda parliamentary constituency Raninder Singh had been withdrawn.
The escort vehicle of Raninder, son of former chief minister Amarinder Singh, was recently withdrawn by the state government without specifying any reason, the party claimed here.
A party delegation met Home Secretary N S Kang and raised the issue of"inadequate security"to its candidates in the state.
It claimed that while Raninder&aposs main rival Shiromani Akali Dal&aposs (SAD) Harsimrat Kaur Badal was being provided Z category security, the Congress candidate was not even being provided the routine escort, mandatory for the contesting candidates.
The party also sought additional central security forces for peaceful conduct of elections in the state.
It alleged that the Congress candidates throughout the state were not being provided adequate security by the state government. It also referred to the demand by the state DGP for 200 companies of the central security forces for smooth and peaceful conduct of elections in the state.
Instead the Centre has only assured 86 companies so far, the party said.
