Shillong, Apr 3: In Meghalaya, all the eleven candidates are in fray for two Lok Sabha seats in state with no withdrawal of any nomination on the last day today. The Chief Election Officer, Meghalaya, Mr. P Naik has said that presently the state has 10 companies of central Para military forces and an additional 33 companies have been sought from the centre. He said that night vision cameras would be used to guard the strong room. Around 12.77 lakh voters will exercise their franchise this time in the state. AIR correspond3ent Rameshwar Naik reports from Shillong that in Meghalaya the state chief election officer Mr. P Naik has today strongly warned all political candidates for strictly adhering of model code of conducts during the ensuing Lok Sabha poll in state. Mr. Naik said that so far no major cases of violation of code of conduct were reported. In Garo hills districts so far some cases had been reported pertaining to pasting of posters except these there were nothing reflected. Briefing media in the state capital this afternoon Mr. Naik has informed that this time the number of polling stations has gone up from 1599 to 2117 which is more than the last state assembly election. Of the 2117 polling stations 365 has been declared as sensitive and 13 hyper sensitive. He said that it was because of smooth conduct of the election and to ensure free and fair poll. After delimitation, two parliamentary constituencies in the state have hardly seen any changes. He said that assembly constituencies to have changed after delimitation but not parliamentary seats .The state election commission has also decided to set up polling booths with in a radius of five kilometers. He said that no voters will be allowed to walk more than five kilometers from their place of residence. |
