Nagaland PCC meet

Labels: ,
Kohima, Feb 16 : The Nagaland unit of the Congress has called a meeting on Monday following the resignation of two of its legislators from the Assembly yesterday to join Nagaland People’s Front.
Medokul Sophie, the general secretary (administration) of the Nagaland PCC, said the party would decide upon the expulsion of Aloh Konyak from Tizit constituency and Kejong Chang from Tuensang Sadar-II constituency on Monday.
“We will definitely take action against them,” Sophie told this correspondent today. Konyak and Chang will probably be expelled from the party for six years.
Sophie alleged that the two had been wooed with “huge money”. “We have received reports that they received Rs 2 crore each from the NPF,” he added.
Sophie said the unannounced decision of the two former MLAs was “irresponsible and immature” and the politicians had no future anymore.
Party leader Chingwang Konyak said the two former MLAs had not even informed him of the reason for quitting the party.
The NPF claimed that the two Congress members had decided to quit the Assembly and join it in protest against the anti-Naga policies adopted by their party leadership, both in the state and at the Centre.
NPF party sources said the former Congress MLAs would be allotted party tickets to contest the byelections.
The sources said two more Congress MLAs, reported to be from Dimapur district, would resign from the Assembly to join them.
With the resignation of Konyak and Chang, the number of Congress seats in the 60-member Assembly has been reduced to 22. The NPF has 25 legislators, the BJP two, the NCP two and Independents seven. Of the seven Independents, a lone MLA is with the Opposition Congress while the rest are with the ruling DAN government.
