LS passes Supplementary Grants worth Rs. 42,480 crores

New Delhi, Dec 19 : The demand for supplementary grant was on Friday passed by the Lok Sabha. Government on Thursday sought Parliament's approval for extra cash expenditure of Rs. 42, 480 crores.

Replying to the debate Home Minister Mr P Chidambaram said that the additional grant was sought to give boost to the economy. Mr Chidambaram, who previously held the finance portfolio, assured that the growth will be in tune with the figure of 7 per cent.

The second batch of supplementary demands has raised the total budget allocation for the fiscal to Rs. 1.4 lakh crore. Around Rs. 14, 500 crore from the plan expenditure goes to the development of rural sector while a sum of Rs. 7,500 crore is for urban infrastructure. 

Nearly Rs. 1400 crore have been marked for the recession hit textile industry and a non-plan expenditure of about Rs. 16, 215 crore is kept to meet extra expenses like food and fertiliser subsidies and defence pensions.
