Pratapgarh District Magistrate Pinky Jowal has slapped a notice on Samajwadi general secretary and actor Sanjay Dutt for his alleged objectionable remarks against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati.

New Delhi, Apr 2 : Bollywood actor-turned politician Sanjay Dutt today appointed national general secretary of Samajwadi Party.

The Bollywood actor today briefed media about his new role in the party after the Supreme Court turned down his plea to contest Lok Sabha plea form Lucknow Parliamentary constituency.

However, he denied to comment on his earlier remark that a Union Minister threatened him.

When reporters asked him to name the minister he categorically denied and said Amar Singh could announce the name in this regard.

New Delhi, Mar 31 : Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt's plea to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections was today rejected by the Supreme Court which refused to stay his conviction in connection with the 1993 Mumbai blasts case.

"We are not inclined to suspend his conviction," a Bench headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan said.

"It is not a fit case to grant stay of conviction," the Bench also comprising Justices P Sathasivam and R M Lodha said.

Dutt had been fielded by the Samajwadi Party as its candidate for Lucknow Lok Sabha seat.

Lucknow on Saturday (March 14) got its first taste of star power, when the candidate of the Samajwadi party (SP) for the prestigious Lucknow seat took out his first political rally.

parliamentary constituency Sanjay Dutt today (March 14) said he was even ready to face bullets while struggling for their cause.
“I am here to struggle with you all and I am ready to face lathis and bullets in the process. We will fight unitedly for the cause of the party and youths,” Dutt said while addressing a state convention of youth wings of the SP.
Donning a red cap, symbolising SP, Dutt said he was not here to give speeches, but to work for the people.
“I am not here to give a speech. I am here to work. Yeh cycle (SP’s poll symbol) meri, aapki, sabki hai, aur ise Delhi tak le jana hai,” he said, adding with SP workers and leaders around, he felt like being at home.
“Mulayam Singh Yadav and Amar Singh once told me that you will become a part of the SP family, once you wear this red cap. Today, I have worn it to become a member of your family,” he said.

Lucknow, Mar 2 : Bollywood star and the Samajwadi Party candidate from Lucknow Sanjay Dutt will meet party workers to formulate a strategy for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls and interact with various sections of the public.

Dutt will also visit a house in the congested Aminabad locality where his father Sunil Dutt lived for nearly four years till 1951, while he worked with All India Radio.
“Dutt will meet Samajwadi Party activists at the party state headquarters,” said party spokesperson Rajendra Chaudhary.

He will also meet members of the minority community in Aminabad and interact with prominent doctors of the city later in the day.

It is still not clear whether Sanjay Dutt will in fact be allowed to contest elections since he is on bail at the moment. SP leader Amar Singh said that if Dutt is not allowed, they will request his wife Manyata to stand from the Lucknow seat.

Both Sanjay and Manyata Dutt came under fire from women’s groups for their recent statements against women who retain their maiden surname after marriage.

Sunil Dutt lived with the family of Captain Rizvi in the narrow Ganne Wali lane in Aminabad for nearly four years till 1951. However, owing to security reasons Sanjay was not allowed to enter it.

“Hundreds of people lined up the lane which is merely 2-3 feet wide. Owing to a heavy rush and security reasons, Sanjay is expected to visit the lane sometime later,” said Samajwadi Party spokesperson Rajendra Chaudhary.

Sanjay and Manyata were showered with red rose petals while they met the captain’s family at Jopling Road. Calling Manyata its daughter-in-law, the family also gave ‘muh dikhayee’, a post-marriage ritual in Hindu families where money is gifted to the bride after seeing her face.

“I am quite happy to visit the family with whom my father cherished some memorable moments,” Sanjay told reporters.

With the family members, he also went through some black and white photographs of his father.

After meeting the family, Sanjay along with his wife and Amar Singh headed for the Samajwadi Party office on Vikramaditya Marg. He will meet party workers to formulate strategy for the upcoming April-May Lok Sabha polls.

Sanjay is popularly called “Munnabhai” after a character he played in a film. Though convicted for arms possession in the 1993 Mumbai blasts, he has been picked by the Samajwadi Party as its candidate from Lucknow.

The same week that Barak Obama, the son of a white mother and a black father is about to make history as the free world’s leader, India’s Samajwadi party is fielding Bollywood hunk Sanjay Dutt, the son of a Hindu father and a Hindu-Muslim mother, as a candidate for the Lucknow constituency. On the surface, there is hardly anything common between Obama and Dutt. Deep down however, there are a lot more similarities that seem to make them the dream candidates.

Age:
Both Obama and Dutt are about the same in age, with Dutt only 2 years and 5 days older, both of them born under the leo sign.

Obama is the son of a black father from Kenya and a white mother from Kansas. Obama’s father was born in the then British territory of Kenya, which today is the independent Kenya. Sanjay Dutt’s father Sunit Dutt was a Hindu born in the then British Indian territory of Jhelum in Punjab, which today is Pakistani territory. Dutt’s mother, famed Bollywood actress Nargis was herself of mixed heritage - a daughter of a Hindu father from Rawalpindi and a Muslim mother from Allahabad.

Obama’s mixed heritage is a perfect godsend for America, for he’s perceived to be a half-white and a half-black individual. Dutt’s mixed heritage may be a perfect godsend for India, for he may be perceived as the right person for the times, a symbol of Hindu-Muslim bridge.

Mother’s influence:
Both Obama and Dutt were strongly influenced by their mothers. Obama’s mother Ann Dunham and Dutt’s mother Nargis were both active social workers - Ann Dunham was a USAID and Ford Foundation consultant and Nargis was a Spastics Society patron and activist Both Obama and Dutt lost their mothers to cancer. Obama lost his to uterine cancer when she was 52 years of age. Dutt lost his to pancreatic cancer when she was 51 years old.

Bad company:
Obama’s associations with Reverend Wright and 1960s bomber activist William Ayers, almost cost him his presidency. Dutt’s associations with Kadawala and Hingora did cost him his freedom for 18 months in Mumbai’s Arthur Road jail.

Illegal drugs in early life:
Obama has admitted using illegal drugs in his youth. Dutt, too, has been known to have used illegal drugs in his youth and was rescued from that addiction after months of treatment in the United States.


Location:
Obama’s home state of Illinois puts him in a unique position along with another former president who was also a uniter who worked hard to bridge the racial and regional divides - President Lincoln. Sanjay Dutt’s hometown is Mumbai, the place of 26/11 carnage and the place where terrorism has been rearing it head up for many years.

Charisma and popularity:
Much of Obama’s appeal is his personal charisma and his unique appeal across the board. Sanjay Dutt is an actor with charisma, appeal and name recognition across the board. Where Obama shot to fame with a message of hope and change, Dutt shot to a newfound fame a few years ago with his film’s message of Gandhigiri and nonviolence and bridging divides.

During the first week of February, the newly sworn-in President Obama will be shaking hands with Sanjay Dutt, the newly chosen United Nations goodwill ambassador against malnutrition. That evening, there’s a good chance Obama will be passing of some his good luck to Sanjay Dutt.

New Delhi, Jan 10 : If Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt is not qualified to contest the Lok Sabha elections, his wife Manyata will be the Samajwadi Party candidate in his place, party general secretary Amar Singh said here Saturday.

"If Sanjay Dutt is unable to contest the polls, we will request the Dutt family to allow (his wife) Manyata to fight from Lucknow," Amar Singh told reporters here.

He had announced Thursday that Sanjay Dutt would be the party candidate from Lucknow for the poll expected by May. However, the actor has a number of criminal cases pending against him and may not be qualified to contest.

Former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee represents the Uttar Pradesh capital in the Lok Sabha.
