Delhi Confidential: Lessons in trust

If the coming together of Janata Parivar parties had happened earlier, Nitish Kumar could have got valuable advice from his rival-turned-friend Lalu Prasad on trusting people. A few days ago, Lalu bumped into former party man Ram Kripal Yadav, who is now with the BJP, at the airport. Lalu jokingly told him that given the tantrums being thrown by Jitan Ram Manjhi, everyone would now understand why he specifically chose his wife Rabri Devi to be his successor when he went to jail.

On shaky ground
While CBI officials have vehemently denied that any of its officers had a role to play in the controversy surrounding attempts to stall former Union minister Matang Sinh’s arrest in the Saradha scam, one of its senior officers is believed to be on shaky ground in the agency due to his association with Sinh. It is learnt that Sinh knew the CBI officer through a retired IPS officer, whose own ties with the former minister were so strong that Sinh had helped him secure an extension as a member of the NDMA, despite opposition from a senior Congress minister.

Lost opportunity
The BJP may have used MoS Kiren Rijiju in a press conference to douse a controversy after it referred to people from the North-East as immigrants in its vision document, but the Union minister was left out of rallies in the Capital, even in areas where there is a considerable population of people from the North-East. While other cabinet ministers and ministers of state were asked by the party to hold Jan Sabhas across Delhi, Rijiju did not get the chance. Perhaps the number of people from the North-East in the Capital — roughly 40,000 — did not seem important enough to attract the BJP’s attention.

Modi’s words
Health Secretary B P Sharma may have just joined the Health Ministry but his management lingo, especially quoting Prime Minister Narendra Modi generously, is beginning to stump officials in the ministry. Sharma has been talking about making strategy papers for even existing schemes for the National Health Mission, citing the PM’s insistence on strategising.
