Cong leader favours resignation of UPA-appointed Governors

Causing embarrassment to the party leadership, Congress leader and former state minister Pandalam Sudhakaran has called for the resignation of Governors appointed by previous UPA regime, terming it as an ideal course considering the traditions of the Congress.

Making particular reference in a Facebook comment to Maharashtra Governor K Sankaranarayanan and Mizoram Governor Vakkom Purushothaman, both Congress leaders from Kerala, he said they were "stalwarts" whose experiences would be of use to the party in its hour of crisis.

"As for those Governors who have been appointed by the UPA Government, to resign or not is a big question...I feel that it could be in keeping with the unparallelled tradition and status of the Indian National Congress to forgo these political appointments," Sudhakaran said.

Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) is yet to react to the views aired by Sudhakaran, one of the general secretaries of the state unit.

Sudhakaran, however, justified his post on the hotly debated issue saying he was prompted to put them out as he was pained by the sharp digs made by some of the BJP leaders against the Governors continuing in their posts.
