BJP unveils ‘Mission 84’ plan

Guwahati, May 29 : After its best-ever performance in Lok Sabha polls in Assam, BJP has set its sights on the 2016 Assembly polls.

Under its “Mission 84” plan, the party is targeting 84 seats in the 2016 polls to reach two-thirds majority in the Assembly.

Speaking at Vijay Utsav organised by the Assam unit to celebrate the good show in the election, BJP’s state in-charge Sudhanshu Mittal asked party workers to endeavour towards getting rid of the Congress misrule in 2016.

“Our victory is incomplete till we win the Assembly polls in 2016. We shall not stop till we form a BJP government in the state,” Mittal said to a thunderous applause and loud cheers from party workers.

He also asked party workers to interact with the people and prepare a blueprint on the people’s expectations from the BJP, if it comes to power in the state.

Mittal gave credit for the party’s victory in the Lok Sabha election to the “blood and sweat” of the workers.

All the seven BJP MPs from Assam, including the state president and minister of state (independent charge) for skill development, entrepreneurship, youth affairs and sports, Sarbananda Sonowal, were felicitated at the function held at the Pragjyoti auditorium in Machkhowa here.

The party’s district units, frontal wings and cells, councillors and area sabha members of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation, felicitated the MPs.

Sonowal appealed to the party workers to bring about a change (of government) in the state through hard work.

“The results of the Lok Sabha polls have shown that through hard work change is possible,” he said.

“I will spare no effort to fulfil the expectations of the people,” he added.

Sonowal said as a minister one of his objectives would be to identify young talents from every nook and corner of the country and establish them at the national level. “I will also try to improve connectivity to Barak valley, which has remained neglected for so long.”

He said as a minister of state for sports and youth affairs, he would seek guidance from eminent sportspersons of the region like Bhogeswar Baruah.

Bijoya Chakravarty, the BJP MP from Gauhati, said the Congress, which is plagued by infighting, is in ruins in Assam and if the BJP continued to work in the right direction, there is no reason why the party cannot form a government in the state in 2016.

Party workers also burst crackers and lit fireworks during the celebrations today.
