Rahul Gandhi kicks off Congress' poll campaign in C'garh on pro-poor note, berates Opposition for trying to run one-man show

  • Jagdalpur:
In a veiled attack on Narendra Modi, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Thursday lashed out against Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) brand of politics for seemingly investing most of the powers in a single person.

“We want the common people to know that they run the country. The opposition feels one or two people can run the country,” Gandhi, a favorite among Congress politicians to lead the party in next Lok Sabha polls, said during his address in Naxal-affected Jagdalpur district in Bastar region of Chhattisgarh.

Unsparing in his attack towards BJP’s prime ministerial candidate, Gandhi further told the crowds comprised mostly tribals, “We want the common people to know that they run the country. The opposition feels one or two people can run the country.

Gandhi, whose rise in Congress has seen party veering towards more welfarist legislations, reiterated his pro-poor agenda assuring the people of the impoverished district of party’s commitment to uplift the masses.

“Our fight is for the common people, for the poor, for the weaker sections. We want them to be empowered,” Gandhi said.

“We need to give the common man power. We need to empower the common man with rights,” he added.
