New Delhi, Nov 26 : Claiming that Delhi has become ''crime and rape capital'', Leader of the Opposition Vijay Kumar Malhotra today said women are not safe in the capital even after having a woman Chief Minister. ''The city has a woman Chief Minister, but women are not safe here. Delhi has become crime and rape capital,'' Prof Malhotra told mediapersons on second day of winter session of the Assembly.
He was referring to an incident in which a 30-year-old BPO employee was gangraped last night while she was on her way to home. Five men allegedly kidnapped the woman, hailing from Manipur, when she was dropped off after work at Dhaula Kuan in her office cab. The BJP leader alleged that Ms Shiela Dikshit has been escaping from her responsibility by saying that the Delhi police was not under her government's control.
Ms Dikshit while commenting on the incident, said the law and order subject was with the Lt Governor and the Union Home Ministry.
