Addressing the issue of drought and price rise, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh admitted on Saturday that agriculture operations in the country have got adversely affected due to lack of monsoon.
While discussing the issue with state chief secretaries, he asked the state governments to immediately start relief operation, if needed.
Acoording to media reports, the Prime Minister said that the government will not allow any citizen to go hungry.
So far, eight states have been declared drought hit due to scanty rain this monsoon. Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Punjab, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Jharkhand and Assam were declared drought-hit.
