The main qualification of the current Indian president Pratibha Devisingh Patil is that she is a staunch Nehru-Gandhi loyalist. A far cry from the peoples President APJ Abdul Kalam, she has not popular with common man. Not that India does not have competent presidential candidates, eminent scientists and professional have been denied their rightful place.

If the commander is responsible of conduct of his troops, then Pratibha Devisingh Patil has all the reasons to be suspected of favoring her electors. Meghalaya Governor has been allegedly accused for his “biased report” which led to the Central rule in the north-eastern state. In Goa there had been demands to sack Governor S.C. Jamir (a former Congress chief minister of Nagaland).

A president has set options on inviting the political parties for forming governments. The focus will on how much of this options will be selectively utilised to favour a particular party.

As 2009 Indian elections come to an end, next few weeks will tell if she is going to be another puppet president or she will take this opportunity to uphold the highest constitution of India, the seat of Indian president and create a positive name for herself that even the best of PR couldn’t do for her.
