Ahmedabad: Kutch (SC)
Kutch saw around 42% voting by 3 pm. The low voter turnout in minorities-dominated Banni-Pacham, Abdasa and Mundra may be a cause for worry for Cong candidate Valji Danicha. Pro-BJP segments Bhuj and Anjar witnessed high turnout.
Bharuch
The voter turnout was 41% (3 pm). According to election officials, the average voting was about 51%. Ankleshwar recorded 36.95% voting, Jhagadia recorded 42.99% and Jambusar recorded 39.06%. The largest percentage turnout was 43.05% in Vagra and 30.87% in Karjan.
Surat
The turnout in Surat was 41.58% till 3 pm and the final figure was expected to be around 50%. As of 3 pm, Surat East had recorded the highest turnout of 44.41% among the seven assembly segments in the constituency. East Surat has a large number of minority community voters. Brisk voting was registered in Varachha Road, Surat North and Katargam, which have a large Saurashtrian population. Though this seems to be a good omen for Congress candidate Dhiru Gajera, BJP leaders said: "Saurashtrians have voted for Darshana Zardosh."
Chhota Udepur
It saw 40% voting by 3 pm and polling officials estimated it would cross 50% by 5 pm. The highest turnout was in Chhota Udepur assembly constituency, 49.74%; followed by Nandod (43.39%), Halol (39.89%), Jetpur (39. 43%), Dabhoi (37.83%) and Sankheda (35.84%).
Bardoli
By 3 pm, the turnout in this tribal-dominated seat was 44.35% and was expected to cross 55%. The highest turnout of 56% was registered in the Nizar assembly segment. Vyara, stronghold of Congress candidate Tushar Chaudhary, saw more than 50%. Chaudhary is a pre-election favourite to win the seat.
Surendranagar
The voting in the Congress-dominated areas was low. Chotila, a Congress bastion, registered lowest voting. However, Somabhai's hometown Virmamgam, which is a BJP stronghold, registered highest voting among the seven assembly segments. Surendranagar and Wadhwan city (BJP bastions) also registered high turnout. Voter turnout in the constituency was 38% by 3 pm.
Valsad
Valsad is known as a lucky seat as, since 1977, the party that has won here has gone on to form the government at the Centre. Till 3 pm, the voter turnout was 40.31%, which was likely to cross 50% in the final tally. Vansda recorded 43.52% turnout, while Dharampur saw turnout of 34.87%, which was lowest among the seven assembly segments.
Junagadh
The high voter turnout indicates that the BJP stands to gain a lot of ground in the constituency. BJP candidate Dinu Solanki's town registered 61.37% voting, while Congress candidate Jasubhai Barad'sTalala seat recorded 57.81% voting. Muslim dominated areas in the constituency witnessed lower turnout, which can damage Congress's chances.
Anand
The constituency registered only 39% by 3 pm. The BJP strongholds of Khambhat, Anand and Sojitra have registered high percentage of voter turnout than Congress dominated Borsad and Ankalav. But Petlad, which has registered more than 45% voting, may hold the key.
Kheda
The Congress bastion saw a low voter turnout (only 34.21% by 3 pm). The polling percentage in BJP-dominated assembly segments Matar, Dholka, Mahemdavad and Daskroi was higher than in ones dominated by Cong, Nadiad and Kapadvanj.
Panchmahals
The turnout was about 40% by 3 pm and was expected to cross 50% by 5 pm. Godhra recorded the highest percentage of 44, followed by 33% in Balashinor, 32% in Kalol , 31% in Lunawada, 31% in Morva Hadaf, 27% in Sahera and 22% in Thasara.
Vadodara
Turnout in Vadodara by 3 pm was 37%. Officials expected percentage to cross 47% by 5 pm. The estimated voting in Savli was 42%,Waghodia (47%), Shaher Wadi (47%), Alkapuri (46%), Raopura (52%), Sayajigunj (45%) and Manjalpur 47%.
