HYDERABAD: The Telugu Desam today accused Jammalamadugu MLA and Congress party candidate C Adinarayana Reddy of creating terror in Kadirivaripalli village in Kadapa district by attacking the Dalits there.
The party sought penal action against Adinarayana Reddy, the circle inspector and the sub-inspector of police at Yerraguntla for dereliction of duty and biased treatment of the MLA and his followers.
According to a complaint lodged with the Chief Electoral Officer here today, Adinarayana Reddy, along with his followers, went to Kadirivaripalli village on April 7 for electioneering.
Reddy visited Malawada and Madigawada in the villages urging the voters to elect him again.
When he did not get any assurance from the Dalit voters in his favour, he reportedly abused them by their caste name and threatened them with dire consequences. A heated argument took place between the locals and the MLA after which the MLA and his followers allegedly attacked the villagers and their houses.
The incident is learnt to have taken place in the presence of the circle inspector and sub-inspector of police of the Yerraguntla police station. The TDP leaders accused the police officers of saluting the MLA and his accomplices, and being biased towards them.
Lodging the complaint, TDP Politburo member Alladi P Rajkumar said ``We request the Election Commission to initiate penal action against Adinarayana Reddy for attacking Dalits and disqualify him from the election. Action should be taken under the SC and ST (Prevention of Attrocities) Act against the MLA, and departmental action against the police officers of the Yerraguntla police station for neglecting their duties and acting in favour of the MLA.’’ The TDP representatives presented to the CEO a video footage of the circle inspector saluting the MLA and his followers.
CEO IV Subba Rao sought detailed reports from the director-general of police and the district police authorities on the incident.
He said serious action would be initiated against the MLA, his followers and the police officers if they were proved guilty.
