SHILLONG: Governor RS Mooshahary's decision to remove G S Massar from the post of the state's Advocate General and appointment of K S Kynjing in
his place has come under criticism from the Meghalaya Progressive Alliance (MPA).
It was Massar, who as Advocate General had advised Speaker B M Lanong to ignore the Governor's directives ahead of the trust vote of the dismissed NCP-backed MPA coalition government.
An official notification said another senior advocate SP Mahanta had been appointed as the new Additional Advocate General.
"The sudden removal of Massar as the state's Advocate General and appointing Kynjing, a Congress
supporter, has indicated that the governor is functioning on the advice of the Congress," former chief minister Donkupar Roy told reporters here on Wednesday.
Roy also expressed doubt whether the new appointments of Kynjing as state's Advocate General and S P Mahanta as his deputy had been discussed in the Union Cabinet. The MPA had appointed Massar as Advocate General soon after as-suming power in March 2008.
