"The notice to Jayaprada has been issued by the Rampur district administration for distributing packets of 'bindis' (worn by women on the forehead) to women in Rampur's Swar locality," Sub Divisional Magistrate B.P. Singh said.
The notice was issued late Sunday and Jayaprada has to file a reply by Monday evening. A case will be registered against her if she fails to do so within the stipulated time, Singh said.
Jayaprada and some of her supporters had Saturday distributed bindis with the Samajwadi Party symbol in Swar, officials said.
Rampur is around 250 km from Lucknow.
