Thiruvananthapuram, The CPI(M) Kerala unit today urged the Election Commission to call back the Central Election Observer for allegedly meting out ”inhuman punishment” to an Election Sectoral Officer at Vadakara constituency in Kozhikode district.
If the EC does not take immediate action against the Observer for Nadapuram and Vadakara Assembly segments of the Vadakara Lok Sabha constituency, Pathubha Lalubha Darbar, for his ”barbarian and inhuman” action, the Kerala government should initiate legal action, including approaching the Supreme Court, CPI(M) state unit Secretary Pinarayi Vijayan said in a statement here.
Alleging that the punishment of ”half-squat” given to the officer was ”cultureless and an insult” to the country, he said the state would never tolerate such deeds.
He also alleged that some electoral officers were misusing the restrictions, issued by the Election Commission and said these officers were obstructing the ”independent functioning” in the name of restrictions.
