NEW DELHI, April 9 : The BJP today came down heavily on the Congress saying the UPA Government at the Centre being led by the party failed to protect the country from terror. The saffron party wanted a report card of the UPA Government on tackling terror in the Northeast.
BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prashad said it is well known that infiltration from Bangladesh is a serious threat to the national security.
The IM(DT) Act that had been enacted by the Congress Government was quashed by the Supreme Court in July 2005. While scrapping the Act the apex court declared that Asom is facing an “external aggression and internal disturbance on account of large-scale illegal immigration of Bangladeshi nationals”.
The said it is the duty of the Centre to take all measures for protection of Asom as enjoyed under Article 355 of the Constitution. Instead of following the judgement, the UPA Government purely for vote bank politics, issued orders which brought back “a new form of IM(DT)” making deportation of illegal immigrants difficult.
This is the deplorable record of the Congress in the Centre and also in Asom where it has been ruling for the last nearly eight years and playing political games with the people of the sensitive State, said Prashad.
