Lucknow: The BJP has accused the state government of repeatedly trying to hamper its election campaign in the state.

After disallowing public meetings of its senior leaders in several constituencies, the state government has now refused to allow the party's "Dalit Chetna Rath".

Apart from the BJP governed states like Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh, the yatra is also undergoing in Jammu and Kashmir, New Delhi and Rajasthan.

The party has alleged that the state government wants to project itself as "the only messiah of Dalits" and is not allowing any other party to reach out to the Dalits. The Dalit Chetna Yatra is a video-vehicle created to talk about the party's manifesto and its promises to the Dalit voters. It also presents a detailed analysis of the state policies and programmes for the Dalits. Apart from this, it is also used for organising small public meetings for the candidates.

"It shows that the BSP does not want anyone to reach out to the marginalised section. Such acts show that Mayawati is feeling insecure," said HN Dixit, party vice-president and spokesperson.

The co-convenor of the yatra, Munshilal Gautam, said the party had already applied for the permission for getting the vehicle to campaign in the state on March 26. "It is really surprising that when we went to the transport department to get the copy of the permission letter, we were told that all the papers we submitted are missing." said Gautam. "Now we are being told that we will have to submit them again," he added.
