Kolkata, Apr 27 : Samajwadi Party (SP) General Secretary Amar Singh on Sunday expressed unhappiness over denial of a seat to his party in West Bengal by Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Bannerjee.
“We wanted that the Congress, the SP and the Trinamool Congress should fight together. Hence, I appealed to Mamata Banerjee to give us a single seat even if it’s is a losing seat. We supported Banerjee during the Singur issue. We also supported her during her rift with Congress President Sonia Gandhi. Despite all of this, Banerjee did not even talk or respond to our phone,” Amar Singh said at a press conference here.Singh also claimed that the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) has been disintegrated.
“The UPA has not broken but has been disintegrated. But after May 16, it will again be integrated,” Singh added.
Bollywood actor-turned politician Sanjay Dutt, who accompanied the SP leader here, expressed his emotional gratitude.
“It is a very emotional moment for me. I want to thank Amar Singh to find the house where my mother was born. I was in the room for 10 minutes just remembering my mother. I want to thank Kolkata and its people as she was born here,” Dutt said.
