Vadodara , Mar 15 : A dissident BJP MP, who was suspended from the party for supporting the UPA government during trial of strength on nuclear deal issue in the Parliament last year, is likely to contest the coming Lok Sabha polls on Congress ticket.
" Congress had offered me ticket to contest from Bhavnagar parliamentary constituency. I have conveyed to the party that I will contest from Surendranagar, which I had represented in the 14th Lok Sabha,"suspended BJP MP Somabhai Gandabhai Patel said.
During last Lok Sabha elections, Patel had won from Surendranagar constituency on BJP ticket.
" Congress has conceded my plea to be nominee of the party for the Surendranagar seat,"he said.
Explaining his decision to join the rival party, Patel said,"I am fighting the dictatorial attitude of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on whom BJP leadership has been relying before taking any decision on matters related to the party."
Defying the party whip, Patel had supported Congress-led UPA government during the crucial trial of strength on nuclear deal issue in the Parliament last year.
Patel is likely to be the first BJP dissident leader to get Congress party ticket for the Lok Sabha polls and his name is likely to figure in the second list of the candidates to be released soon, sources in Congress said.
