Hamirpur (HP), Mar 25 : Even as famous cricketer Madan Lal hits the campaign trail in Hamirpur Lok Sabha constituency tomorrow, Congress has dissolved its youth wing there to quell protest over his candidature in place of"potential"nominee Narinder Thakur.
District Youth Congress President Neelam Thakur dissolved the Hamirpur block unit after a majority of its office bearers publicly opposed candidature of Lal in place of Thakur.
Thakur informed about the decision to dissolve the Hamirpur youth Congress unit through a press release last night.
Protestors led by its President Karan Thakur described Lal as an"outsider"and questioned the decision to field him from the Hamirpur Lok Sabha seat to take on Anurag Thakur, son of chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal.
They supported Narinder Thakur, son of veteran Congress leader and former minister late Jagdeo Chand, who recently switched sides to Congress.
Meanwhile, Lal, a member of 1983 world cup winning team, is all set to hit the campaign trail tomorrow.
He will start the campaign after paying obeisance at famous Naina Devi temple in Bilaspur district tomorrow, Congress unit president and MLA Rajesh Dharmani told PTI today.
