SHILLONG: Ending days of speculation over the fate of the ruling Meghalaya Progressive Alliance, NCP leader and former Lok Sabha Speaker P A Sangma on Friday said Meghalaya might soon have a new coalition government comprising Congress, NCP and UDP.
"I am prepared for any arrangement for the sake of stability and development in the state," said Sangma, who had played a crucial role in the formation of the non-Congress MPA last year. "Congress too has lots of veteran and experienced leaders, who perhaps are thinking that their talent is being wasted," he said. Sangma added that he was not averse to a coalition government involving Congress and NCP if it also included the United Democratic Party, a regional party.
Sangma did not rule out a truck with Congress saying, "If Independent MLAs can hold the state to a ransom, it does give us some food for thought." Meghalaya has already had two governments in less than a year since the assembly elections in 2008.
