Labels:
NEW DELHI, March 7 : A day after, senior leaders of Assam Congress party left for the State, upset party men aspiring for tickets have flooded AICC with complaints alleging anomalies in selection process.

A senior Congressman from Barak Valley, Pradeep Dutta Ray dashed off a memorandum to Rahul Gandhi stating that why only one name that of Union Minister Santosh Mohan Dev has been making it to the Panel of selected candidates for the last 30 years.

At least three names including that of the complainant was reportedly forwarded by the District PCC but only the Union Minister’s name reached the Central Screening Committee of the party, it was alleged.

Similarly, other aspirants like Ranee Narah has cried foul charging that every block in Lakhimpur Parliament seat has recommended her name at the top. But it slipped few notches by the time it reached Delhi.

For Jorhat seat, reportedly the name of Rajib Baruah was forwarded by Nazira Block Congress but his name too got lost in the way and that of Bijoy Handique reached the AICC, said a rebel leader.

Kirip Chaliha too was upset and he alleged as the sitting MP for Guwahati Lok sabha seat, his name was at the bottom of the heap. Names of loyalist like Haren Das and Sailen Bora figured at the top, he said.

Meanwhile, hectic lobbying has been continuing with former MPs and senior leaders taking the lead. Madhab Rajbonshi, Abdul Hamid, Devananda Konwar, Niva Knowar, Ranee Narah, Dwijen Sarma, Anwar Hussain, Bishnu Prasad meeting senior AICC leaders to push their case.

The only silver lining was that they were reportedly assured that the Central Election Committee would take into account their views and they were still in the reckoning.

Meanwhile, the candidate list for Mizoram and Sikkim was announced. Congress is fielding CL Ruala from Mizoram and Khera Nanda Upreti from Sikkim. Names of candidates for 30 Assembly seats was also announced by the AICC.
