Pune, Mar 7 : Political activities are on a high ahead of the general elections as leaders of various parties are exuding optimism of gaining people’s confidence.


Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has expressed confidence of finalising the seat sharing formula with regional parties and other factions in the alliance led by it.

Amidst all these, there are regional leaders who are fast becoming contenders for the Prime Minister’s post.

Union Agriculture Minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar said on Saturday that he was not much worried over his claim for the prime ministerial post.

“Some of my friends do feel that this time there might be a situation where major political parties have to take a back seat. Someone says that I could be the next Prime Minister of the country. But I know what is a ground-level situation and that’s why I am not unnecessarily thinking about this,” Sharad Pawar said.

He also admitted the fact that his case was week because his party was contesting in lesser number of seats.
“See as I say if you are contesting in such a small number, how can you expect to become the Prime Minister of the country. How can I say that my case is sound? I am grateful that some people are thinking about me,” Pawar claimed.

Meanwhile, BJP was busy finalising the sharing of seats with the ruling party of Orissa, Biju Janata Dal (BJD).
The two allies are facing some problems and their alliance in under strain in the state.

“We are discussing. As you are aware that all kinds of reports have
appeared in the media, about BJD demanding so many seats and we are refusing to concede so many seats. Orissa Chief Minister and BJD chief Naveen Patnaik and I are having detailed discussion on how to evolve a satisfactory middle path in this scenario, which will be satisfactory to both,” BJP MP Chandan Mitra told reporters in Bhubaneswar.

India will hold the elections to the Lok Sabha between April 16 and May 13. Over 714 million people will cast their votes.
