New Delhi, Mar 16 : The CPI-M has launched its poll manifesto for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. CPM leader Prakash Karat released the manifesto in a press conference in New Delhi. He slammed the UPA government at the Centre and accused it for creating a big divide between the rich and the poor. He also criticised BJP's "communal" agenda."Our government will have pro-people economic policies and our manifesto urges people to defeat both Congress and BJP that did nothing for the country", said Prakash Karat.
Karat justified Left's decision to part ways with the UPA government, saying it deviated from the policy of adopting an independent foreign policy by turning to the United States. He disapproved the Indo-US nuclear deal, saying it compromised with India's sovereignty.
Karat also criticised the government for rising prices and inflation. "We supported the Congress-led UPA to install an alternative secular government in the country. But they betrayed us", said Karat.
