New Delhi, March 19 Condemning the firing incident at its election meeting in Karbi Anglong district in Assam allegedly by Congress cadre, CPI (ML)today appealed to the Election Commission to direct the Assam government to bring the guilty to book and take necessary action to ensure peace during the general elections.
The incident happened on Monday when a rally was being addressed by former MP and central committee member of the party Jayanta Rongpi. A 60-year-old woman was seriously injured in the firing, CPI (ML) claimed in a release.
The party claimed that the"perpetrators are enjoying protection of the Congress dispensation in Assam."
It said the attack was carried out as the Congress was"frustrated"against the loss of support in the area."A day before CPI(ML) rally, Congress had tried to hold a meeting at the same venue but no one turned up at the meeting,"the release claimed.
The party further claimed that it had been at the receiving end of poll-related violence in earlier elections in the state.
