Lucknow , Mar 4 : Lashing out at the ruling BSP in Uttar Pradesh for its alleged statement that if voted to power at the Centre, the BJP would abolish reservation to Dalits, a senior saffron party leader today described the remark as stupid and misleading.
"The recent statement of BSP chief Mayawati that dalits may be deprived of the benefits of reservation if the BJP comes to power at the Centre, is a stupid stunt to mislead the educated dalits", senior BJP leader Hriday Narayan Dikshit told reporters here.
Asserting that the question of ending dalit reservation never arose during the BJP-led NDA regime, he said it was a canard being spread by the BSP to create fear in the minds of Dalits whose faith in the party is shaken.
" Engaged in corruption and spending crores of public money on building statues, the BSP is fast losing its hold on its traditional dalit vote bank, and that is why it wants to create fear in the minds of dalits by spreading a false propaganda," Dikshit said.
