BJP nominee from Rampur parliamentary constituency Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Saturday (March 14) lodged a complaint against his rival and sitting Lok Sabha member Jaya Prada alleging that the SP nominee offered money at religious places to woo minority voters.
Naqvi lodged the complaint with district magistrate L S Panday, who is also the District Election Commissioner, for the reported violation of model code of conduct by the SP nominee shown in the TV footage of a news channel.

Panday assured the BJP leader to get the matter inquired.

Reacting to the BJP complaint, Jaya Prada here said that she offered money to pay her respect at the mazar and it was not intended to woo muslim voters.

“I can’t be stopped form offering my respect to places of worship. Hence, criticism in this regard should be deemed as an undignified political behaviour against a powerful rival in political arena,” Jaya said.

She said, “I had gone to offer my respect at Mazar Baghdadi Sahib on Friday where Sajjadanasheem, the manager of the mazar, presented me with prasad and I put some money in the golak meant for Zayreens (devottes) offerings.”

Scene of offerings, Jaya Prada said, was caught in camera by a TV channel reporter and telecasted after twisting according to his unethical convenience. “I am ready to face any kind of impartial inquiry on the said count,” she said.
