New Delhi, Feb 8 : The Congress on Saturday dubbed the BJP’s move to rake up the Ram Temple issue a political sham, saying the saffron party has no intention of building the temple.

Just hours after BJP president Rajnath Singh vowed to rebuild the Ram Temple at the disputed site in Ayodhya, its rival Congress party said the saffron outfit was only trying to fool the people of the country by raking up the issue again and again.

A party spokesperson asked why did the BJP not construct the Ram Temple at the disputed site in Ayodhya when the NDA was in power.

Congress leader Tom Vadakkan, in charge of the party's media cell, said: "The BJP doesn't intend to build a temple. They are doing an injustice to the name of Ram, to the cause of Hinduism. They don't intend to keep their promise. The people will give a fitting reply (during the upcoming Lok Sabha elections)."

"Jahan tak Ram Janambhoomi ka sawal hai, koi ma ka lal bhagwan Ram me hamari aastha aur nishtha ko diga nahi sakta (No one can shake BJP's faith and reverence to Lord Ram)," Singh said earlier in the day at the two-day BJP National Council meeting at Nagpur.

He said that if voted back to power, the NDA will establish a fast track court to expedite proceedings to resolve the Ayodhya temple issue. Singh further said that BJP is waiting for the opportunity to build the Ram Temple.
